This is a real story of a principal of a famous Univeristy whose wife has been suffered from Alzheimer's. Years passes by, she doesn't even know her own husband. So, this gentleman has some nurses taking care of her at home. Someday, he declares that he wants to quit so he will have more time taking care of his wife. Of course, they try to talk him around to stay. One of a guy even says that " I really don't understand why you want to do that? Your wife doesn't even know you."
This gentleman looks into his eyes and says " I had already commited myself to this woman 50 years ago. She might not know me but I know who she is". This is the story I read this morning and I was touched. It said that many ppl commit themselves at the begining or when it is romantic. But what about after years goes by or when there is no passion. It said that marriage is about commitment, promise; not just feeling.
I don't know how many ppl agree this nowadays. I think the point isn't about what is more important but too often ppl emphasized the importance of feeling only. It seems feeling is the only thing it matters, once feeling gone then it's over. Actually, I didn't think too much about this. While I was reading this, what's in my mind isn't about marriage but the relationship with God. I think this is just exactly like God and us. We might not know Him or His love but He knows who we are and loves us as who we are. What a great love He has for us.
